Project Scope
In Jan of 2021, Gulf Civil were the successful tenderer for the 2021 DRFA work package for the Burke Shire Council in Northern Queensland.
The works involved a significant roadworks scope around 200km from Burketown and over 20 site locations for a total of 50 km of road restoration on Burke Shire area. Eagerness for completion was met with prompt mobilisation to commence construction leading to completion ahead of schedule to the joy of the Client and Community.
The project, funded by the DRFA consisted of the following:
- Site Setup and mobilisation
- Delivery, cartage, and placement of 3000t of Heavy Formation supply, Bulk Fill and Gravel sheeting material
- Pothole Repair and clearing out of culvert structures
- Grading, placement, and compaction of gravel sheeting
- Medium Grading of existing roads
- Heavy Grading of existing roads
- Management of impassable road network prior to commencement of works
Over the duration of the project, the project management team overcame several challenges including:
- Programming, Planning, and minimizing impacts of wet weather within a monsoonal region
- Logistically planning and procuring for best outcome delivery of gravel requirement within a narrow tidal range and shallow entry port
- Cultural Heritage and community engagement management
- Employing and Training local workers for future community Benefit
- Haulage of material in rough terrain
- Ability to maintain a supply chain of required materials, supplies and maintenance consumables for the project within a remote region
