Project Scope

This project for the Mapoon Aboriginal Shire Council was awarded to Gulf Civil through a competitive tender process. As the successful Tenderer, the works were required to be completed within the dry period due to budgeting and time pressure constraints placed on the Council. The project required significant planning and logistical understanding by the team in to deliver the project within the timeframe. This involved careful consideration in planning each workflow and specific task at the right time in order to continue with the following scope(s) of works.

The project scope of works includes:

  • Site preparation for access works
  • Gravel importation
  • Bulk fill importation
  • Clear mixed debris and remove from site
  • Desilt drainage structures
  • Gravel resheeting
  • Heavy formation grading
  • Medium formation grading

Key challenges in the delivery of this project included:

  • Delivery of work in a remote community, requiring additional planning and considerations to staging several subcontracted scopes of works and making allowances for the impact’s involved with delivering works in a remote location.
  • Working with strict quality requirements in order to get sign-off of works completed. Inspections and testing which were successfully completed as planned.
  • Working with Council to overcome unforeseen issues involving subgrade, material quality and latent conditions to ensure the project was completed to all levels of budgetary limitations.
  • Ensured works were completed, as well as protected through periods of high dry activity.
  • Programming of works in order to commence the project on a limited timeframe whilst also engaging, securing and transporting imported gravel critical to critical path sections of the project.
  • Maintaining a strong working relationship with local community stakeholders.
