Project Scope
In April of 2022, Gulf Civil was the successful tenderer works contract for pavement widening and upgrades for Cloncurry Shire Council in Northwest Queensland.
The following project work involved the strategic intention is to develop a “boulevard” style connection between the Cloncurry township and the airport, with the final section between Sheaffe Street and the Cark Katter Bridge southern approach as the remaining link to be completed. The link is set apart in two stages of works. Also, this project was able to meet the Client and Community expectations.
Over the duration of the project, the project management team overcame several challenges including:
- Programming, Planning, and minimizing impacts of wet weather.
- Traffic management control.
- Employing and Training local workers for future community Benefit.
- Cultural Heritage and community engagement management.
- Ability to maintain a supply chain of required materials, supplies and maintenance consumables for the project within a remote region.
- Maintaining a strong working relationship with local community stakeholders.
The project, consisted of the following:
- Erosion and sediment control.
- Traffic management.
- General Earthworks – Clear and grub, including preparation, excavation, scabbling, backfill and subgrade.
- Flood Immunity Improvement: o Drainage works, RCP installation, culvert installations and concrete channels.
- Interface of new drainage layout with existing drainage
- Road and Pavement Rehabilitation
- New Intersection alignment and interface with existing streets
- Subgrade treatment as required Sealing works 2 coat bitumen sealing
- Road alignment and interface with new pavement
- Carparking provisions at the front of the Lawn Cemetery
- Road furniture and line marking
