Project Scope

Gulf Civil Pty Ltd was awarded the contract for the Kowanyama Sealed Roads 23–24 Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA) Package by the Kowanyama Aboriginal Shire Council. This initiative aimed to rehabilitate and reconstruct sealed roads within the Kowanyama township, addressing significant damage caused by Ex-Tropical Cyclone Seth (December 2021 – January 2022) and the Northern and Central Queensland Monsoon and Flooding (December 2022 – April 2023).

The works targeted multiple streets within the Kowanyama township, including Arwin Amay Street, Carrington Street, Chapman Road, Chellikee Street, Gilbert White Street, Inatawngk Street, Karreenganang Street, Kokoberra Street, Koltmomun Street, Kowanyama Street, Kowanyama-Dunbar Road, Kunjun Street, and Pindi Street .

PROJECT SCOPE

  • Pavement Repairs and Reconstruction: Restoration of damaged sealed road surfaces to ensure safe and reliable transportation within the township.
  • Bitumen Spray Sealing: Application of two-coat bitumen spray seals to enhance road durability and resistance to future weather events.
  • Crack and Edge Repairs: Addressing structural deficiencies by sealing cracks and repairing road edges to prevent further deterioration.
  • Heavy Shoulder Grading: Regrading of road shoulders to improve drainage and road stability.
  • Drainage Improvements: Reshaping and clearing of table drains to facilitate effective water runoff and reduce flood risks.
  • Site Preparation: Clearing, grubbing, and topsoil stripping to prepare sites for construction activities.
