Project Scope
In March of 2023, Gulf Civil was the successful tenderer DRFA Restoration Works for the Burke Shire Council in Northen Queensland.
The works involved a significant roadworks scope with a mix of each urban intersection works within the township and over 6 sites locations for a total of 72km of road reconstruction on Burke Shire Council, QLD.
Due to the criticality of the road network for day-to-day operations on the Location, and the abundance of impassable sections of road , public and client driven pressure and eagerness for completion was met with prompt mobilization to commence construction leading to completion ahead of schedule to the joy of the Client and Community.
Project Challenges
Over the duration of the project, the project management team< overcame several challenges including:
- Programming, Planning, and minimizing impacts of wet weather.
- Logistically planning and procuring for best outcome delivery of the concrete requirement for the project for FRP works.
- At the start of the project, it was quite tricky to manage the human resources as people didn’t want to stay long term being the project site remote.
- Employing and Training local workers for future community Benefit.
- Cultural Heritage and community engagement management.
- Haulage of material in rough terrain
- Ability to maintain a supply chain of required materials, supplies and maintenance consumables for the project within a remote region
- Maintaining a strong working relationship with local community stakeholders
Project Scope
The project, funded by the DRFA consisted of the following :
- Haulage material from available borrow pit.
- Clear mixed debris and remove it from site.
- Delivery, cartage, and placement material for Heavy Formation Supply, Bulk Fill and Gravel sheeting material
- Medium Grading of existing roads.
- Heavy Grading of existing roads
- Patch Repair- includes 2-coat bitumen seal.
- Reshape table drain.
- Management of impassable road network prior to commencement of works.

- Working with the client to commence works under contract at a fast-tracked site possession.
