Project Scope

The Napranum Water Infrastructure Upgrades project was initiated by the Napranum Aboriginal Shire Council (NASC) to enhance the reliability, capacity, and safety of the community’s water supply system. Located on the west coast of Cape York Peninsula, the Napranum community required critical upgrades to its water treatment and storage infrastructure to meet current and future demand, improve water quality, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards. The project was delivered in two separable portions: the construction of a new 1.2ML reservoir and comprehensive upgrades to the water treatment plant (WTP). These works were designed and executed to meet stringent technical, environmental, and safety standards, ensuring long-term serviceability and resilience of the infrastructure.

Separable Portion 1 (SP1): 1.2ML Reservoir Construction

  • Site investigations including survey, services location, and geotechnical assessments
  • Detailed design and documentation of a 1.2ML Glass Fused Steel Panel Tank (or approved equivalent)
  • Civil works including site clearing, earthworks, and foundation construction
  • Installation of:
    • Inlet, outlet, overflow, scour, and interconnecting pipework
    • Roof access stairs, walkways, handrails, and safety systems
    • Reservoir level instrumentation and SCADA integration
    • Decommissioning of redundant infrastructure
    • Site restoration, landscaping, and provision of critical spares and O&M manuals

Separable Portion 2 (SP2): Water Treatment Upgrades

  • Design and construction of:
    • New chemical dosing systems for Sodium Hypochlorite and Sodium Hydroxide
    • Concrete hardstand and skillion roof structure for chemical storage
    • Recirculation pump station and associated pipework
    • Water quality instrumentation (chlorine, pH, turbidity)
  • Electrical and control system upgrades including switchboard modifications and SCADA integration
  • Decommissioning of the existing calcite filter and associated pump station
  • Safety enhancements including eyewash stations and signage
  • Commissioning, performance testing, operator training, and handover documentation
