Project Scope

In May of 2023, Gulf Civil was the successful tenderer minor works contract for Runway Line Marking and Civil Works on Mornington Island Airport for the Mornington Shire Council in Northwest Queensland. The work involved reshaping and construction of drainage swale around GA apron to redirect overland stormwater flows and prevent flooding of GA apron area during high rainfall events. Having the high skilled manpower and resources the project started on time and achieved its estimated completion date before 1 month then estimated completion date. Also, this project was able to meet the Client and Community expectations.

Over the duration of the project, the project management team overcame several challenges including:

  • Programming, Planning, and minimizing impacts of wet   weather.
  • Logistically planning and procuring for best outcome delivery of the concrete requirement for the project for FRP works.
  • Employing and Training local workers for future community Benefit.
  • Cultural Heritage and community engagement management.
  • Ability to maintain a supply chain of required materials, supplies and maintenance consumables for the project within a remote region
  • Maintaining a strong working relationship with local community stakeholders

The project, consisted of the following: 

  • Demolition and clean up including disposal to council approval site.
  • Clear mixed debris and remove it from site.
  • Runway Regrading.
  • Transportation and delivery of all construction materials
  • Concrete Works
  • Satisfying the Grant funding conditions including the Indigenous Participation Plan
